How did you get into roller derby?

It kind of happened at random. A friend of a friend was on a team that was having a boot camp to for new people. I went that day and have been hooked ever since.

How/why did you pick your derby name?

I love 80’s movies and I think my teammates can attest to all of the weird squeals and coos that I make during practice.

How did you get into derby?
I heard about derby in college and wanted to try it. I assumed (wrongly) it was more like the 70's style situation—costumes, elbows, script, etc.—and didn’t feel up to that at 19. I found Peach State’s page years later, bought skates, and started attending newbie nights. Fell in love.

How/why did you pick your derby name?  Charlotte Bronte’s novel Jane Eyre changed how I interacted with literature and inspired me to major in it.

How did you get into derby?
First, I saw the movie Whip It and knew I would do that some day.  Then my sister-in-law found PSRD and I’ve been hooked ever since.

How/why did you pick your derby name?
It’s for the Latin phrase “Momento Mori” which basically translates to “Remember Death”. Momentum is used instead because I like to skate fast.

How did you get into roller derby?

A colleague of mine forwarded a Facebook post for another team that was recruiting and said it looked like something I would be into.  My response was “absolutely”.  I immediately started researching and found a league in my town and another colleague was actually the newbie trainer.

How did you get into derby?
One of my good friends introduced me to it when I was living in Virginia.  Beaver Receiver convinced me to buy my gear and skates and come out to her team’s fresh meat program.  I didn’t stick with it at the time because the drive and traffic was too much for me. It’s okay to quit and come back!  I’ve done that twice now, before ever passing assessments, because life just gets in the way sometimes.  It took me 4 years, from the time I first started, to actually bout!

How/why did you pick your derby name?
It’s a play off Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park.  He’s a scientist, I’m a scientist.  Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies, and Jeff Goldblum is simply my favorite actor.

How did you get into derby?
I used to watch the Windy City Rollers quite frequently when I lived in Chicago, IL. I always wanted to learn how to play, but the timing was never right.  Fast forward with my relocation to Georgia, where I was fortunate to hear of Peach State Roller Derby.  Came across their recruitment flyer in a running race my husband's company was organizing.  The rest is history. My PSRD family was meant to be.  Been smashing ever since!

How/why did you pick your derby name?
My name is Vanellope Von Schweetz's alter ego from Wreck-It Ralph. I've always been the square block trying to fit into a round cut-out. I relate to the uniqueness and energy she symbolizes on many levels.
